Michael Bisping’s name constantly remains on the minds of several fighters. The latest is former UFC champion Rich Franklin.
Franklin, who is coming off a loss to Cung Le last year in China, told MMA Weekly recently that he wouldn’t mind throwing down with “The Count.”
“I look at my Twitter and a lot of people talk about Bisping. That would be an exciting fight and something the fans would want to see. I’m an exciting fighter, he’s an exciting fighter; we both like to throw down.”
Franklin has gone 5-5 since a loss to Anderson Silva for the UFC 185-pound title, and holds an overall record of 29-7.
Bisping (24-5) rebounded from a loss earlier this year to Vitor Belfort, stopping Alan Belcher via technical decision. While some may feel the bout doesn’t make sense in terms of rankings, “Ace” still feels the fans would enjoy seeing it happen.
“Since my ultimate goal is not to go back and capture the 185-pound title, it doesn’t really matter to me if it’s at 185 or a catch-weight or 205,” Franklin added. “Wherever the UFC needed me, I would fight, as long as the fight made sense.”
I can’t think of a reason to not pair these two up right now. Most of the middleweight division is locked into upcoming bouts, but Bisping has stated he’ll need surgery and could be sidelined for a few extra months. If the timing works, why not let them duke it out.
