It seems that a $60,000 dollar Submission of the Night bonus just doesn’t go as far as it used to. At least not in Sweden. UFC lightweight, Reza Madadi was arrested in Sweden on Friday in connection with a smash-and-grab burglary at a designer handbag store. Madadi and two cohorts are accused of taking over $150,000 worth of stolen goods from the store. Three men were captured on surveillance video during the robbery of Bottega Veneta. The tape showed them get into their getaway car, a getaway car that was chased and pulled over by Swedish police.
A UFC official told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) the promotion is aware of the situation but is awaiting further information before commenting. Madadi’s manager could not be reached for comment.
Madadi was set to face Michael Chiesa at UFC on Fox 8 before visa issues prevented him from being able to compete. His last tilt in the octagon against Michael Johnson earned him an additional $60K on top of his show and win money. Perhaps he spent it all already, or maybe he couldn’t bring himself to actually go into a store and purchase a purse. Maybe he just really really wanted one. Madadi has not released a statement as of yet.
He does fight for purses after all. I guess that job description can get lost in translation after a few solid blows to the head.
