Lightweights Gilbert Melendez and Diego Sanchez are now officially opponents, as the two will collide this October at UFC 166.
Officials confirmed the bout, along with a welterweight tilt between Hector Lombard and Nate Marquardt, on Friday. The card goes down October 19 from Houston’s Toyota Center, with Cain Velasquez defending his UFC heavyweight title against Junior dos Santos in the main event.
Melendez (21-3) made his UFC debut earlier this year after holding the Strikeforce lightweight title for several years. He was defeated by Benson Henderson via decision.
Sanchez (24-5) will be seeking his 14th Octagon victory. The former Ultimate Fighter winner is making another attempt at the lightweight title after a stint at welterweight.
