UFC 162 Card: Roger Gracie Only Concerned With Cementing Own Legacy

UFC 162 Card: Roger Gracie Only Concerned With Cementing Own Legacy

Roger Gracie knows what a win inside the Octagon can do for a fighter.

The middleweight will make his UFC debut tonight against Tim Kennedy at UFC 162. Gracie’s family is credited with helping begin the rise of MMA in the U.S., and the fighter knows he is counted on to continue that legacy.

However, Gracie is focused in on only himself and Kennedy, and having his hand raised.

“At the end of the day, each one is a different individual,” said Gracie, during Thursday’s pre-fight press conference. “I cannot try to make it right for what happened in the past. I have to concentrate and do my best in the Octagon. I am happy my family made history in the Octagon; hopefully I will do the same.”

Gracie (6-1) fought earlier this year on the final Strikeforce card, submitting Anthony Smith. Five of his six wins have come via submission, with the other being a decision victory over Keith Jardine.
