Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva doesn’t want a rematch.
Yes, you read that right. Silva was defeated Saturday night by Chris Weidman in the main event of UFC 162.
With his hands down, Silva caught a left hand from the new champion and was knocked cold by a pair of rights on the ground, ending his long run atop the division and his place as the best fighter in the world.
“No, Chris is the champion now,” said Silva, in response to whether or not he wanted a rematch. “I don’t fight for the belt.”
Weidman said he told Silva he would give him a rematch, but it appears as if the former champ is looking at other ventures.
He reiterated plans to continue fighting, mentioning his 10-fight extension.
“I worked hard for this fight,” Silva said. “I respect my fans, UFC, the fans here; I respect the UFC because it changed my life.”
