UFC 162: Chris Weidman Stuns MMA World, KO’s Anderson Silva

Chris Weidman let it be known that he is the new man in the UFC’s middleweight division.

With a simple left hand, Weidman stunned Silva and floored him, earning the second round knockout victory and becoming the new UFC middleweight champion in the main event of UFC 162 Saturday night.

“I can’t believe it,” Weidman said. “I felt like I was destined for this, but it is still felt a little far-fetched.”

Weidman (10-0) didn’t get caught in the mind games of “The Spider,” who continued to drop his hands and dance around through a round-plus of action. However, Weidman said his corner prepared him for that and he knew he could hit the former champion.

“I knew little by little I would keep on him,” he said. “No one is invincible. I got to a point (the showboating) where I just wanted to punch him in the face.”

Weidman said during the post-fight show on FUEL TV that he told Silva he wanted a rematch, and that he “got cocky with his hands down,” during the match.
