Daniel Cormier sees UFC 166 as a perfect place for him to compete near family and friends, and conclude his run as a heavyweight.
Cormier, while fielding questions from fight fans on Twitter recently, mentioned the October card as a possible landing spot for a match with Roy Nelson. Currently, “Big Country” is unsigned after his contract expired, but most believe he will return to the promotion.
The former Olympian and winner of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix simply stated “Yes” when asked if he still wanted to fight Nelson, who was defeated by Stipe Miocic earlier this year.
Cormier won his UFC debut over Frank Mir, but has put plans into motion to move down to light heavyweight. As for his first bout at 205 pounds, Cormier said he wants whoever “The champion (is).”
Cain Velasquez, the UFC heavyweight champion and a close friend and training partner of Cormier’s, will meet Junior dos Santos in the main event of the October card.
