The rematch that everybody wanted, including UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman, will take place this December.
Weidman and Anderson Silva have been tabbed for the main event role at UFC 168 on December 28 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena – site of Weidman’s upset KO of “The Spider.”
UFC president Dana White appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter in a special segment to announce the bout, along with the previous main event between UFC female champ Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate as the new co-main event.
“Everybody has been wondering if there’s going to be a rematch,” White said. “I’ve been working on it since Thursday. December 28 in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand, Anderson Silva will fight Chris Weidman, and the co-main event will be Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate.”
Silva, in a pre-recorded video that aired, simply stated, “I back. Trust me. I back.”
