Fans who love non-stop action in the Octagon have likely been enjoying the flyweight bouts that have taken place so far in the UFC, and according to Dana White, a 125 pound fight will headline a pay-per-view card some day. That’s good news for men like champion Demetrious Johnson, John Moraga or John Dodson, who would love to cash in on PPV dollars like the promotion’s other big stars.
“[Johnson] has been on a lot of big cards. He’s going to fight on FOX again, and we’re in the building phase of that division. So the answer is yes.”
While it may seem like an obvious revelation to some, there are critics who argue the flyweight division doesn’t provide enough stoppages to capture the same level of interest from fans.
“Benson Henderson has had fights that have gone to decisions,” White said, while discussing the alleged issue regarding a lack of finishes at 125 pounds. “Demetrious has gone to decisions. As long as it’s an exciting fight, there’s all different styles of fighters. Some guys go in there to knock people out, some guys pull off submissions, and some guys go to decisions but have exciting fights.”
Of course it’s worth noting that Moraga, who will challenge Johnson at UFC on FOX 8, has recorded a knockout and a submission in his fist two UFC appearances.
