UFC welterweight No. 1 contender Johny Hendricks knows he will get hit by Georges St-Pierre when the two collide in November for the belt at UFC 167.
Hendricks, though, isn’t concerned at all with that.
Following wins in 10 of his first 11 Octagon bouts, Hendricks (15-1) is just excited to finally get his chance at dethroning St-Pierre (24-2) atop the 170-pound division.
“I will bite on my mouthpiece and eat a jab to land a right or a left hand on his jaw line,” said Hendricks during the UFC’s World Tour earlier this week (thanks to MMAjunkie.com for the quotes). “That’s the difference. Punch me in the face, I’ll punch you twice as hard. When I’m in there, my goal is to break someone’s jaw. Let them forget who they are that night. Let them wake up the next morning and go, ‘What the hell happened?’ That’s my goal every fight.”
Hendricks has defeated the likes of Carlos Condit, Josh Koscheck and Martin Kampmann to secure his meeting with GSP. And, while he knows the reputation that St-Pierre brings with him, he isn’t afraid of the icon.
“Give ‘em respect because they have the belt, but he’s just a person,” Hendricks said of St-Pierre. “I can beat anybody at any given time, and that’s sort of the mentality that you’ve got to have when you’re facing somebody with the belt.”
