Lyoto Machida’s MMA resume features some excellent wrestlers.
Machida, the former UFC light heavyweight champion, has competed against the likes of Dan Henderson, Ryan Bader, Jon Jones, Randy Couture, Rashad Evans and Tito Ortiz.
So, his UFC 163 match with Phil Davis isn’t really anything new for “The Dragon.”
“I have always fought well against wrestlers so I’m comfortable,” said Machida, in a recent interview with the UFC. “It won’t be an easy fight, but (the fans) can expect a great performance.”
Machida owns a 5-1 record against the six previously mentioned fighters, falling only to Jones, the current UFC champion.
After defeating Bader last year, Machida was tabbed as the No. 1 contender. However, he was passed over and went on to top Henderson earlier this year.
“I believe that after beating Davis,” Machida said, “there is no discussion about who is the No. 1 contender.”
Davis was a standout wrestler at Penn State University. He is coming off a wins over Vinny Magalhaes and Wagner Prado.
