WSOF’s Moraes: Growing Spotlight “Makes No Difference”

WSOF 4

World Series of Fighting has been providing opportunities for UFC vets like Jon Fitch, Josh Burkman and Anthony Johnson, but it’s also been a promotional vehicle for emerging fighters like Marlon Moraes. After working his way to a split decision win over former WEC champ Miguel Torres at WSOF 1, Moraes further established himself by knocking out veteran Tyson Nam at WSOF 2.

Moraes (10-4-1) recently spoke with MMA Frenzy.com about WSOF 4 tonight, which will feature him taking on Brandon Hempleman (9-1). When asked whether he’s happy to be receiving more recognition and attention, on account of his recent success, Moraes stated:

You know, it is not a big difference. This is a hard sport and it makes no difference [to me], it’s just two guys in there and anybody can win but I am ready. I trained hard for this.

While Moraes has won four straight fights heading into tonight’s contest, Hempleman will make his WSOF debut having scored six straight victories. The 25 year-old Moraes offered this breakdown of Hempleman, who most recently recorded a UD win over Paul McVeigh, while fighting for the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship.

He’s a tough guy, but everybody is, everyone’s training jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, kickboxing, and wrestling. So I don’t look at the bouts much different, I just train hard and give it 100%. I’m ready.

WSOF 4 will be hosted by Ontario, California’s Citizens Business Bank Arena and will be broadcast live on The NBC Sports Network beginning at 10:30 PM EST. The card will be headlined by a bout between kickboxing star Tyrone Spong and light-heavyweight Angel DeAnda.

Some of the other bouts scheduled include WSOF President Ray Sefo fighting heavyweight Dave Huckaba, and UFC vet Tyson Griffin facing lightweight “JZ” Cavalcante.
