Urijah Faber isn’t taking Iuri Alcantara lightly ahead of their meeting Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 26.
Faber, a former WEC champion and contender to the UFC gold, is the heavy favorite to defeat Alcantara. But as a veteran of the sport, “The California Kid” has done his homework on his adversary.
“Iuri is super dangerous,” Faber said. “He probably has the record for most finishes in the division. He has one of the most diverse games of the 135-pounders; that danger is my motivation.”
Faber is on a two-fight win streak, having earned submission wins over Scott Jorgensen and Ivan Menjivar so far this year. He is now 28-6 in his career.
Alcantara has just one loss on his resume since 2009, that to contender Hacran Dias. He defeated Iliarde Santos earlier this year via TKO and is 3-1 with one no-contest since coming over from the WEC.
“I love fights like this,” Faber said. “This is the type of fight I want. You have to bring out your best game or get hurt.”
