Welterweights Rory MacDonald and Robbie Lawler will meet the same night the UFC’s welterweight title is on the line.
Officials confirmed that the two will square off in November at UFC 167 as part of the under card, likely in the co-main event.
Georges St-Pierre defends his UFC welterweight title against Johny Hendricks in the headliner, and the winner of MacDonald-Lawler could place themselves in the new role of No. 1 contender depending on how that bout goes.
MacDonald is coming off a victory over fellow contender Jake Ellenberger in July, while Lawler downed Bobby Voelker at the same card.
Since a loss to Carlos Condit, MacDonald (15-1) has won five in a row. Lawler (21-9) is unbeaten in his two fights since returning to the Octagon, having finished both Josh Koscheck and Voelker.
