UFC Officially Parts Ways With Lightweight Reza Madadi

Reza Madadi didn’t fail a post-fight drug test that resulted in his UFC release.

He also didn’t drop straight bouts; in fact, he actually went 2-1 in his three Octagon fights.

However, Madadi (13-3) did something a little worse: burglary.

Last week, the 35-year-old was sentenced to 18 months in prison after stealing $150,000 worth of merchandise from a handbag store in Sweden. He has until September 6 to file an appeal, but the UFC wasted no time in parting ways with Madadi.

“Following his conviction by a court of law in Sweden, the UFC organization has elected to terminate its relationship with Reza Madadi based on its Fighter Code of Conduct and the provision of its promotional agreement concerning fighter conduct,” the statement read.

Madadi defeated Michael Johnson in his most recent bout, and also topped Yoislandy Izquierdo in his UFC debut.
