TJ Grant: I’m The No. 1 Contender To UFC Lightweight Title

TJ Grant doesn’t feel like his injury changes anything in terms of the UFC’s pecking order.

Anthony Pettis took Grant’s spot this past weekend and became the new UFC lightweight champion, defeating Benson Henderson.

That was suppose to be Grant’s opportunity before a training concussion knocked him out of commission. Now, he hopes for a title shot upon his return to action.

“I feel like I’ve earned it,” said Grant, during an interview with MMA Fighting. “I feel like I’m the guy. I’ve been in the UFC a long time. I’ve never really gotten the push that I feel like I need but I’ve also built a lot of experience in fighting and haven’t been in the spotlight, which is nice too. But I’m ready to be there and I’m ready to go out there. Give me the opportunity man. I feel like I’ve earned it.”

Grant quickly came out of nowhere to become a challenger to the belt, defeating Gray Maynard via first round TKO.
