Former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is being groomed for a spot on the UFC’s return to Australia card later this year.
The Daily Telegraph is reporting that Rua will meet James Te Huna at UFC Fight Night 33 in December from Australia. It would join a previously announced main event between Mark Hunt and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.
Rua (21-8) lost his second straight, and third in his last four fights, recently when Chael Sonnen submitted him. He is 5-6 in his UFC career, including losses to Dan Henderson, Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida.
Te Huna (16-6) had a four-fight win streak halted when he ran into Glover Teixeira recently. He had bested Joey Beltran and Ryan Jimmo during his win streak, which helped him put together a 5-2 Octagon mark.
