Antonio Silva was unable to solve Cain Velasquez during their second meeting, as “Bigfoot” was defeated by the UFC heavyweight champion earlier this year.
Now, Silva must begin the road back to becoming a top contender; and it starts in December with Mark Hunt at UFC Fight Night 33.
“I have a long way to go now,” said Silva, during a recent interview with the Brazilian news source Tatame. “Velasquez was (Fabricio) Werdum, (Daniel) Cormier and Josh Barnett.”
First, Velasquez will face Junior dos Santos in a third encounter. Most feel the winner will get Werdum, who has been willing to wait on the sidelines for his shot at the belt.
In Hunt, though, Bigfoot realizes he has an excellent opportunity to make a year-ending statement.
“I think a win over him puts me right there in the middle again,” he said. “I’m way behind in the line now. There are many people deserving.”
