Jon Jones seemed upset during a recent conference call when he was continually asked about former champions Anderson Silva and Benson Henderson losing their respective titles.
Jones is set to defend his belt next Saturday against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165. A win would be his sixth successful defense, a new record for the division.
“I know that I am not unbeatable,” he said. “No one is unbeatable. I don’t compare myself to Anderson Silva. The fact that he lost has nothing to do with me.
“He has been in the game a long time. I just turned 26 and at the very beginning of my career. We are at completely different stages, different levels.”
Jones has topped former champions like Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida during his run, and the fact that history is in his grasp hasn’t been eluded.
“The record means a lot to me,” he said. “That’s why I got in this game: to be the greatest of all-time.”
