Rolles Gracie carries one of the more storied names with him each time he steps foot inside the cage.
This evening, Gracie will do battle with Derrick Mehmen at World Series of Fighting 5.
Gracie, 35 years old, has won five straight fights since falling in his only UFC bout to Joey Beltran back in 2010. That includes five consecutive submission wins.
“I’m feeling great for this fight,” he said during a recent conference call. “Derrick is definitely a tough opponent. I can’t take him lightly. I’m really looking forward to this fight.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the fight. I can say, ‘I wish this,’ or, ‘I wish that,’ but it’s only once you step in the cage that you know what’s going to happen. So I’m ready to do whatever it takes. Whatever it comes down to in the cage, I’m ready and prepared for it. I feel a lot more experienced and a lot more ready for it.”
Rolles will be joined by family members Gregor Gracie and Neiman Gracie, along with several others he trains with.
“We are very excited to be a part of this. We’re really thankful to World Series of Fighting for making such an event and making this opportunity happen for all of us,” he said. “It was great to not only have my brother and my cousin on the card but David Branch and my other teammates on the card. We all trained together. We got to improve together. We got to push each other forward and make ourselves better. It was an amazing, amazing training camp for all of us, and I’m really looking forward to (it).”
