Brendan Schaub Chokes Out Matt Mitrione At UFC 165 For First Career Submission Win

Former Ultimate Fighter castmates Brendan Schaub and Matt Mitrione exchanged plenty of words prior to their contest at UFC 165 Saturday night.

After four minutes of action, it was Schaub happy and Mitrione out cold, as “The Hybrid” used a D’arce choke in the opening round to claim the win.

“This is the happiest I have ever been,” Schaub said. “I am so happy right now.”

Schaub earned his first career submission win vs. someone he said was a friend. The two appeared to patch things up after the fight.

Mitrione motioned to the referee early in the hold that he was fine, signalling him with a thumbs-up, but moments later, Schaub tightened the grip and it was all over.

During the post-fight interview, Schaub stated that “Venice, coffee is on me if I get the ‘Submission of the Night’ bonus.”

The win improved Schaub to 9-3 in his career and was his second straight win after defeating Lavar Johnson earlier this year.
