Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson not only recorded an impressive stoppage win over Chris Clements at UFC 165, but the noted kickboxer scored his second victory since he was defeated by Matt Brown at UFC 145. After living up to the hype that surrounded his Octagon debut last February, by stopping Daniel Stittgen in memorable fashion, Thompson dropped a unanimous decision loss to Brown two months later.
While discussing his latest victory at the post-fight presser, here is some of what Thompson had to say about his future prospects (comments via MMA Junkie.com):
“My second fight in the UFC, I fought Matt Brown, who’s doing awesome right now,” Thompson said. “I’m cheering him on. He’s doing a great job.”
“But he’s the only thing on my mind right now. He’s my only loss since I’ve been in the fight game, so I’ve got to work my way up and see if we can do it again. I think we put on a good show that night, and I think we can do it again.”
Of course, Brown is set to fight fellow welterweight contender Carlos Condit at UFC on FOX 9 in December, but if Thompson keeps winning he may just get that rematch down the line.
With Saturday’s win, the Tri Star fighter’s record sits at 8-1. Stay tuned to MMA Convert for all your UFC news.
