Guida has been a longtime member of Greg Jackson’s camp in New Mexico and the relationship has certainly produced some solid success. Still, “The Carpenter” has fallen flat as of late and gotten away from the all-out style he used to be known for. It seems he’s grown a little too comfortable or complacent. Sticking him in a new situation could rekindle that fire seemingly missing these days.
UFC light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson recently announced his decision to part ways with Alliance MMA, stating he planned to train solely in his home base of Sweden to avoid the time and expenses of heading to San Diego 3-4 times a year. Also likely playing a role, fellow top contender Phil Davis comes out of Alliance and there’s a good chance the two will tussle at some point down the road. All in all, Gustafsson’s reasoning made sense and the switch should work out for the best. Now, if only a few of his UFC peers would follow suit and reap the benefits a change of scenery would no doubt bring. (Photos by USA Today Sports Images)
