Junior dos Santos felt the wrath of Cain Velasquez for five rounds in their most recent fight, as the UFC heavyweight champion battered him and claimed the belt.
That fight, though, gave “Cigano” an idea of what he needs to do to prepare for a third meeting, which takes place this Saturday at UFC 166.
“I have to give my best all the time in training, especially in the case of fighting Cain Velasquez,” said dos Santos, during a recent press conference. “I know how hard he fights, pushes the fight. I have to do a very good job at the gym to get there.”
Dos Santos finished Mark Hunt earlier this year to secure a rematch with Velasquez. He knocked him out in the first meeting between the two.
“For me, it’s an honor to be competing at such a high level with Cain Velasquez,” he said. “He is the champion right now and the guy I have to beat in this division.”
