Pat Curran was looking to make a statement Saturday night at Bellator 106.
Instead, Curran was sent back to the drawing board after a loss to Daniel Straus cost him the Bellator featherweight title.
Straus dominated the five-round affair, scoring a decision victory and handing Curran his first loss since 2011.
“I have no 1 to blame but myself,” Curran wrote on Twitter. “I know I”m a better fighter then that. Thank you to my team and coaches for bringing me this far.”
After defeating Joe Warren for the belt, Curran (19-5) went on to defeat Patricio Freire and Shahbulat Shamhalaev. It remains unknown if he will be granted an immediate rematch, but with Bellator’s tournament-style ways, you would think not.
