Tarec Saffiedine’s ultimate goal is to become the UFC welterweight champion.
After defeating Nate Marquardt, Saffiedine went down in the history books as the final Strikeforce 170-pound champion.
However, a series of injuries have kept him from fighting since that time. Saffiedine is scheduled to meet Jake Ellenberger in early 2014, and he recently talked about the upcoming Georges St-Pierre vs. Johny Hendricks title fight at UFC 167.
“Johny is really tough, he has big heavy hands and good wrestling, but GSP is a technical level above him,” said Saffiedine to MMA Fighting. “Hendricks wants to brawl, but GSP uses his footwork and jab. GSP hasn’t fought a southpaw, so we’ll see how he reacts to that.
“Maybe I’m wrong, I don’t think he did. But GSP wins the fight.”
The 27-year-old Saffiedine (14-3) has won each of his last four fights – all via decision – since a loss to Tyron Woodley in 2011.
