Jon Jones Remains Interested In Facing Cain Velasquez

Both fighters currently hold UFC championship gold.

And, several years back, both won NJCAA national wrestling titles in Fort Dodge, Iowa while competing for Iowa Central Community College.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones recently reiterated plans to eventually join the ranks of the heavyweight division, and hopes to one day test his skills vs. Cain Velasquez.

“I think that’s going to happen in the next two years,” said Jones, in an interview with, concerning a move to heavyweight. “I’ll go up to heavyweight permanently. I’m looking to take a super-fight sooner or later; within the next year.”

Currently, Jones is set to face Glover Teixeira sometime in early 2014, with a possible rematch lined up vs. Alexander Gustafsson after that. Velasquez, the reigning UFC heavyweight champion, is slated to defend his belt vs. Fabricio Werdum, also sometime in the next year.

“I’ve really been thinking about me and Cain Velasquez going at it. I think that would be huge for the sport,” Jones said. “He’s definitely the toughest guy in the division and he’s not that big, so I think it would be a really entertaining fight. So don’t be surprised if you see that sooner or later.”
