Ben Askren A No-Go For TUF

Ben Askren wants to compete inside the world-famous Octagon, but he won’t do it taking the path of Roy Nelson and Kimbo Slice, among others.

On Twitter recently, the former Bellator welterweight champion was asked if he would be willing to compete on The Ultimate Fighter, where the winner is guaranteed a contract with the UFC.

“Not a chance,” responded Askren, who is rumored to be working on a possible deal to compete with ONE FC in Asia. The fighter himself also confirmed plans to train at Evolve MMA after beginning his fight camps at his current home, Roufusport, in Milwaukee.

Askren (12-0) is a former U.S. Olympic wrestler that saw his Bellator contract expire following a TKO win over Andrey Koreshkov this past July. He planned on signing with the UFC, and Bellator completely cleared him to do so, but UFC president Dana White has been lukewarm to the idea to date.

Nelson, a current UFC heavyweight, won TUF and was viewed as a possible title contender until a loss to Stipe Miocic. Slice, who lost to Nelson on the same season, competed inside the Octagon.

Others such as Rashad Evans, Forrest Griffin, Kenny Florian and Nate Diaz have all used TUF to put together long and successful UFC careers.
