WSOF 7: Sefo Says Palmer Proved He’s “The Real Deal” in Defeat

Lance Palmer

Lance Palmer may not have emerged from WSOF 7 with the featherweight title, but the 25 year-old still demonstrated why he’s one of the sport’s top prospects, during his fight last night with Georgi Karakhanyan. After all, not only does Karakhanyan have three times as many bouts under his belt than Palmer, but he’s defeated numerous well established vets along the way.

Speaking after the championship fight, which saw Karakhanyan catch Palmer with a nicely executed guillotine choke, the newly crowned champ credited “The Party” for his toughness. In addition, WSOF President Ray Sefo was also quick to praise Palmer in a post-fight interview with

“That was the first time I’ve seen him fight live and I think Lance Palmer is definitely the real deal,” said Sefo. “The guy is not only a great fighter but he’s only had seven fights. You know what I mean? So I was thankful that he was able to step up to the plate and take the challenge, but 100% he’s going to be back.”

“I like his attitude, I like his passion about the game, he showed what he’s made of in the cage, so fighters like that, for me, it’s great to have and exciting to have.”

The defeat was the first in Palmer’s MMA career, which the former All American wrestler kicked off in March, 2011. Prior to facing Karakhanyan, Palmer laid claim to Resurrection Fighting Alliance’s featherweight title in June, by earning a split decision win over Jared Downing. So, in other words, it hasn’t taken Palmer long to work his way into high profile fights.

It will be interesting to see who WSOF books to fight Palmer next, and how he rebounds from his first loss. Chances are the 7-1 fighter will get tapped to fight another notable 145ér in his second WSOF bout.
