Diego Sanchez Signs New Deal, Targets UFC 171 For Return

It would appear as if Diego Sanchez isn’t going anywhere soon.

Sanchez, a former top contender, has agreed to a new eight-fight deal with the UFC, according to a report on “UFC Tonight” recently.

The 31-year-old Sanchez has competed for the UFC lightweight title, while also winning the middleweight crown on the first season of The Ultimate Fighter. He has picked up seven “Fight of the Night” bonuses and twice been involved in the “Fight of the Year.”

Earlier this year, Sanchez (24-6) suffered a decision loss to Gilbert Melendez. He has gone 3-2 in his last five, which have taken place at both lightweight and welterweight.

While maintaining plans to face Conor McGregor when the Irish fighter returns from injury, Sanchez is also interested in meeting Joe Lauzon – should Lauzon defeat Mac Danzig this Saturday at UFC on FOX 9 – in March at UFC 171.

UPDATE: Reports early Thursday had Sanchez taking on Myles Jury at UFC 171, but the fighter himself is making sure everybody knows that is not official yet.
