Our coverage of tonight’s UFC action continues with our UFC on FOX 9 play-by-play. Tonight’s coverage will kick off at the start of tonight’s FOX main card beginning at 8PM ET. UFC on FOX 9 Play-by-Play:

Mac Danzig vs. Joe Lauzon

Rd. 1-Lauzon takes control of the cage early and looks to establish his jab. Lauzon with a rush and he gets the fight to the canvas with a double leg after a level change. Danzig tries to use his butterflies but Lauzon an incredible pass to mount. Lauzon with a deep armbar attack but Danzig keeps his wits and ends up on top. Lauzon goes for the armbar and then switches to a triangle and then an omaplata to get Danzig to back out and allow the fighter to stand. Solid elbow by Lauzon the clinch exit but Danzig lands a great combination. Lauzon takes control of the clinch with just under 90 seconds left. Danzig secures a bodylock and reverses position briefly before Lauzon pummels back and secures a takedown with just over 0:30 left. Not much offense takes place before the round ends. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Lauzon.

Rd. 2- Legkick by Danzig to start the action. Great combination by Danzig and he is definitely the quicker striker. Over-under clinch now and Danzig with a solid elbow and punches to keep Lauzon from settling in. Lauzon gets the thai clinch and lands a pair of knees and the fighters break. Nice solid combo by Danzig now and another. Danzig controls the clinch again and lands some nice punches to the body but takes some knees from Lauzon. Lauzon then takes Danzig down as he counters the latter’s trip attempt. Huge elbows and punches to the body by Lauzon as Danzig is bleeding bad now. Danzig is going for elbows from the bottom but Lauzon passes to halfguard and lands a knee to the body now. Lauzon stands and lands a big punch as he passes to side control and then to mount. Armbar attempt by Lauzon ends still in the spiderweb position as the horn sounds. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Lauzon (20-18).

Rd. 3- Danzig comes out firing but to no avail. Headbutt by Danzig stops the action briefly but we’re back quickly. Danzig continues to pressure and lands some nice body shots. Lauzon traps a punch from Danzig and delivers a solid elbow before landing a trip takedown. Danzig is throwing elbows from the bottom but Lauzon returns fire and passes to side control Lauzon establishes Salaverry position now. Stiff elbows by Lauzon now and he passes to mount with ease. Nasty elbows by Lauzon. Lauzon rotates his hips for the armbar and batters the body of Danzig before committing to the armbar too soon and Danzig escapes to top control before Lauzon takes him down again and advances to halfguard with just over 0:30 left. Gorgeous pass by Lauzon into side control and he finishes the round with some nasty elbows that leave Danzig looking a mess. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Lauzon (30-27).

Result: Joe Lauzon def. Mac Danzig via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Nik Lentz vs. Chad Mendes

Rd. 1- No touch of gloves here. Lentz is finally the bigger fighter for once and opens the action with a mostly missed combo. Nasty legkick by Mendes. Mendes with a nasty combination that buckles Lentz but he manages to survive and keep it standing. Hard exchange that Mendes gets the better of but Lentz returns well. Wicked body kick by Lentz stymies Mendes for now and Lentz tries to press more now. Lentz gets overextended however and Mendes secures a nice takedown. Lentz escapes back to his feet and lands a knee on the clinch exit. Nice punches from Mendes counter Lentz and the Minnesotan is wearing his damage in the form of cuts and swelling now. Lentz tries to press on but ends up getting taken down. Lentz is using his guard well however and forces Mendes to slow the pace. Mendes just stands and lands a hard strike as they stand. Mendes with another takedown now and just waits out the end of the round on top. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Mendes.

Rd. 2- The body kick by Lentz seems to be lingering as Mendes looks tired to start the round. Hard legkicks by Mendes early keep Lentz from advancing. Jab by Mendes and he lands another. More legkicks and jabs by Mendes now. Lentz gets taken down while striking but Mendes lets him up from side control. Lentz lands more but ends up being taken down again and briefly looks for a guillotine. Lentz escapes as Mendes finally lands some elbows from the top. Mendes with yet another take down as Lentz advances. Light body shots by Mendes as the round ends. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Mendes (20-18).

Rd. 3- Mendes tries a teep but misses and Lentz lands a pair of body kicks after. Lentz backs up Mendes with strikes and Mendes briefly slips before getting back up. Another body kick from Lentz and he stuffs a Mendes takedown. Left hook by Lentz lands. Solid body kick lands by Mendes again. Brief stop after an eyepoke. Lentz keeps switching stances and lands a nice right jab. Wicked bodykick again by Lentz and he is briefly taken down before elevating to escape. Good knees and a left by Lentz. Mendes tries a flying knee that glances but still drops,and bloodies, Lentz. Mendes attacks with a guillotine and eventually has mount but Lentz survives the choke. Mendes lets Lentz back up and lands a solid hook as the final horn sounds.

Result: Chad Mendes def. Nik Lentz via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Urijah Faber vs. Michael McDonald

Rd. 1- Touch of gloves to start the fight. Faber scores a take down after a headkick by McDonald. McDonald has trapped Faber’s left arm on the ground as he looks to set up a few different shoulder locks. Faber is free and begins to go to work with punches. Faber doing a good job of controlling top pressure but McDonald’s guard is keeping from getting comfortable. McDonald briefly looks for an armbar but Faber defends. Hard body shots but Dean stands them up as the action stalls a bit. Legkick by Urijah. Solid body kick by McDonald is briefly caught by Faber. Faber lands a solid hook on the exit. Great combo by McDonald. Solid right hand by Faber stuns McDonald a bit and he lands a left before the horn sounds. Good round. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Faber.

Rd. 2- Touch of gloves and we’re off. Hard left hook for Urijah. Inside legkick by Faber rides high and we have a brief break. Nasty right off the restart hurts McDonald and Faber stalks him down cautiously. McDonald recovers but takes a few more inside legkicks. Faber’s movement and feints seem to be perplexing McDonald tonight. Solid kick by McDonald stops a Faber takedown. Good combo by Faber. McDonald misses a headkick and Faber tags him hard. Wicked barrage of shots drop McDonald as he tries to escape and Faber jumps to a guillotine. McDonald battles to survive but ends up going to sleep. Wow, what a performance by Faber.

Result: Urijah Faber def. Michael McDonald via submission (guillotine choke) at 3:22 of Round 2

Flyweight Championship Fight: Demetrious Johnson (C) vs. Joseph Benavidez

Rd. 1- Jabs by DJ early as JB lands a legkick and looks to charge. DJ is showing a lot of movement to setup takedowns but his first attempt comes up short. Solid outside legkick by JB lands. Headkick by JB. Hard hook by DJ knocks Benavidez to the floor and four follow-up strikes land before the Big John is able to react. Did not see that finish coming.

Result: Demetrious Johnson def. Joseph Benavidez via KO (punches) at 2:08 of Round 1
