UFC 168: Weidman’s Coach Says Champ is The “Wrong Guy” For Silva

Chris Weidman

You couldn’t really ask for a better pre-fight storyline heading into the UFC 168 rematch between Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva. Not only is it a massive fight since it features one of the sport’s fastest rising stars taking on the consensus G.O.A.T. in Silva, but because the first fight ended as the latter was engaged in some serious taunting.

Regardless of Silva’s showboating, the loss prompted some fans and critics to announce that the legend’s skills are on the downward slope. What does Weidman’s boxing coach Ray Longo think? While appearing on the latest edition of “The MMA Hour”, here’s what he had to say (comments via MMA Fighting.com):

“No, I don’t think he’s done as a fighter,” Longo said. “As far as getting in a dogfight, I don’t know about that. As a fighter, I’m sure there’s still 95 percent of people he could beat up and torture. I just think he’s got the wrong guy in front of him.”

Of course, even before the two fought on July 6th, there were plenty of people who believed Weidman’s wrestling and top game were key reasons why the “All American” is the ‘wrong guy’ for Silva. But what are Longo’s thoughts on this?

“I think we’re looking at a submission this time. Let’s diversify!” said Longo.

“I think there’s a good chance, yeah. [Weidman] looks point-on with everything. Whatever he feels like doing, I think he can take this fight wherever he wants to. We know we’re going to play to our strengths like we normally would and I think we’ll have to wait and see what happens.”

It should be an amazing and historic night. UFC 168 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
