UFC 168: Weidman vs. Silva II Play-by-Play

UFC 168 Play-by-Play:

Diego Brandao (18-8 MMA, 4-1 UFC) vs. Dustin Poirier (14-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC)

Rd. 1- No touch of gloves in this one. Diego is looking for wild strikes early while Poirier is keeping him at distance. Poirier slips on a kick and Brandao catches him with an illegal kick but they wave each other on after Brandao apologizes. Fighters continue to circle and Poirier catches a kick but doesn’t do anything with it. Jab to a body kick by Poirier and Brandao launches into a body hook as well. Hard strike from Brandao buckles Poirier briefly. Brandao tries a takedown but Poirier powers a whizzer to escape. Poirier is using a lot of leaping strikes so far. Brandao with a takedown but Poirier scoots back to the cage and stands. Massive shots to the body by Poirier and he tags Brandao to the head. Brandao is hurt and Poirier pours it on. Poirier with a takedown but he stands back up to deliver a nasty right. Big punches now and Brandao is barely defending. Referee Mario Yamasaki mercifully calls a stop to the fight.

Fabricio Camoes (14-7-1 MMA, 1-2-1 UFC) vs. Jim Miller (22-4 MMA, 11-3 UFC)

Rd. 1- Touch of gloves and we’re off. Camoes starts off the action with a leg kick. Knee to the body off the clinch by Camoes and he lands a solid left on the break. Hard right by Camoes connects but Miller returns fire. Hard right hook lands with a crack by Camoes. Both men are ducking in and throwing wild strikes so far. Camoes catches Miller coming in. Headkick by Camoes lands hard but Miller catches it and slams him down. Hard elbow by Miller. Camoes scrambles into a takedown of his own that Miller just misses reversing with just over two minutes to go. Rubber guard by Miller briefly but Camoes uses elbow to battle out. Armbar by Miller and it is just on the edge of being finished as Miller hooks the leg deeper. Camoes is forced to tap and he is visibly upset with doing so.

Josh Barnett (33-6 MMA, 5-1 UFC) vs. Travis Browne (15-1-1 MMA, 6-1-1 UFC)

Rd. 1- Nice combo by Browne to start the action. Barnett battles into the clinch and lands a solid knee before Browne escapes. Barnett misses on a takedown but lands a leg kick. Browne with a knee and he knocks Barnett out with the same elbows he finished Gonzaga with as Barnett looks for a takedown.

Ronda Rousey (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) vs. Miesha Tate (13-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC)

Rd. 1- Rd. 1- No touch of gloves tonight. Miesha comes out throwing bombs but misses on most of them. Ronda with a throw but Miesha stands and takes some damage before she’s clinched against the cage. Rousey with a lot of strikes here and finally Miesha breaks free before getting taken down again. Rousey stays standing as she lands some strikes and Tate tries a triangle before getting slammed. Tate scrambles to a takedown but shes taking damage from Ronda. Triangle position by Ronda and she is landing a lot of strikes before Ronda switches to a triangle and Tate bails. Hard strikes by both fighters before Ronda lands a gorgeous throw into mount. Tate scrambles though and Rousey gets back to her feet. Tate with a takedown but she gets launched again. Tate stands and eats a headkick on the way up. Punch by Tate lands but not much is done as she ends up stuck in the clinch until just before the round ends. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Rousey.
Rd. 2- Hard combo by Rousey to start the round. Tate with a right but she is swept. Upkicks by Tate force Rousey out but Tate is taken down again off a shot. Rousey with a single leg takedown now. Rousey with punches and knees against the cage. Tate is back up now but Rousey is the one landing all the strikes. Big knee by Ronda. Nasty throw by Ronda and she is in side control. Tate throws her legs over but Rousey uses it to mount Tate. Punches by Rousey now and Tate gives up her back. Armbar by Rousey just misses and she is ripping Tate from backside mount. Ronda has an inverted triangle now and Tate is fighting as hard as she can but she is getting blasted. MMAFrenzy has it 10-8 Rousey.
Rd. 3- Good combo by Rousey to start the round and she drives Tate to the cage. Rousey with double unders now. Ronda tries a viper and secures an armbar with a spiderweb. Tate is simply spent and she taps as her arm is extended again. Tate goes to shake Ronda’s hand but Rousey has none of it.

Chris Weidman (10-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) vs. Anderson Silva (33-5 MMA, 16-1 UFC)

Rd. 1- Touch of gloves and we’re off. Weidman with a lot of hand movement early. Silva looking much more focused early. Weidman on the single leg and Silva works to the cage and stands. Hard knee by Anderson. Over/under by Silva as he works up. Muay Thai knees by Anderson and Weidman rocks Silva with a right behind the ear. Weidman pounces and lands some hard shots before briefly looking for an ezeikial choke. Elbows by Weidman as Silva lands some of his own. Weidman with a canopener before Silva works out. Solid elbow by Weidman. More elbows by Weidman. Body triangle from the bottom by Anderson. Weidman with a big shot but Anderson responds with hard shots of his own. Weidman again looks for the canopener but releases it as Silva fires back from the bottom. Hard shots from Silva but Weidman lands a big one of his own. Weidman is cut now. Weidman stands  and tries for a big shot but Silva moves at the right moment and rolls for a triangle. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Weidman.

Rd. 2- No touch of gloves to start the round. Silva with a hard legkick. Silva with a shot on an advancing Weidman and he is much more offensive here. Headkick by Weidman misses. Outside legkick by Silva. Body kick by Weidman. Silva with a hard legkick but he has a nasty break of his leg as Weidman moves to check it. The bone completely snapped on the kick. Wow, horrifying injury to see.
