Zingano Wants to Fight Despite Torn ACL

In April, things were looking up for UFC rookie Cat Zingano. At the TUF 17 Finale, she squared off against Miesha Tate for a crack at Ronda Rousey’s belt, and with the added incentive of a TUF coaching gig opposite the champ on the line, Zingano put Tate away via TKO in the third round. But soon after, the rising female MMA star was stuck on the sidelines, waylaid by a torn ACL and the surgery necessary to fix it.Meanwhile, the coaching gig and title shot went to Tate, and with Rousey having dispatched that particular challenger at last weekend’s UFC 168, it seems Olympic wrestler Sarah McMann is next in line. The world, it seems, is passing Zingano by – which doesn’t sit well with the injured contender, as evidence by her recent tweet.

Of course, it goes without saying that no athletic commission in the world would approve of a fighter competing with a torn ACL, so Zingano’s willingness to fight – while admirable – ultimately doesn’t mean much. But such is the fight game. Now all Zingano can do is heal up and wait for her opportunity.
