UFC 169: Neil Magny Banking On Home-Field Advantage To Secure Win

Neil Magny understands that the odds of keeping his UFC job are not great if he is unable to get back in the win column as soon as possible.

Thankfully for Magny, he’ll get that opportunity this weekend at UFC 169 when he faces Gasan Umalatov on the prelims.

For Magny, an alum of The Ultimate Fighter, dealing with back-to-back losses in 2013 has him on the edge.

“I’m in a tough position where I’m coming off back-to-back losses in the UFC and my job may depend on how this fight goes,” Magny said, during a recent interview with “It does put things in a different perspective, but I’m also young enough where if something like that does happen, I can bounce back and recover from it. But my focus in this fight is doing what I can do and giving them a reason to keep me around. I want to show them why they signed me in the first place.”

Magny, who trains out of Grudge Training Center in Colorado, will be returning to his home for the first time since joining the UFC. The Brooklyn-born fighter has never fought professional anywhere near his home state.

“This is going to be a good fight. It’s my first time competing on the east coast and that is where I grew up,” he said. “I’ll have a lot of family and friends there and I’m going to be very comfortable in this fight. It’s going to be exciting with lots of action.”
