Anthony Pettis Responds To Jose Aldo’s Catch-Weigh Challenge, Through Manager

As quickly as the Anthony Pettis-Jose Aldo super-fight came together, it appears to have fallen apart.

Aldo’s team stated a desire for the UFC featherweight champion to maintain his belt and face Pettis, the lightweight champ, at a catch-weight.

Mike Roberts, manager for Pettis, seems uninterested in that idea and is already planning to move on to other fights.

“The way we understand it is that Aldo doesn’t want to give up his featherweight title, so fighting Pettis is not an option at this point,” said Roberts, in an interview with MMAFighting.com. “We’re interested in Anthony defending his belt against the top guys at 155. If Aldo doesn’t want to fight for the belt, we’ll fight someone else.”

After Aldo successfully defeated Ricardo Lamas, Pettis’ name popped up. He seemed interested, but was also hesitant to say what he would do with his current title if he moved up to face Pettis.

UFC president Dana White made it clear Aldo would have to vacate the belt if he went up and challenged Pettis. It appears we have a delay in the works now despite both fighters seemingly on the verge of squaring off.
