Nikita Krylov asked, and Nikita Krylov was granted.
After defeating Walt Harris in just 25 seconds last month, Krylov will replace Thiago Silva and face Ovince St. Preux in March at UFC 171.
Krylov asked for the bout on Friday after Silva’s ordeal in Florida led to the UFC cutting ties with him.
UFC 171 takes place March 15 from Dallas and the American Airlines Center. Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks collide in the main event for the vacant UFC welterweight title.
Krylov (16-3) competed twice inside the Octagon at heavyweight, defeating Harris after falling to Soa Palelei. Following his most recent win, he cited a desire to move down to light heavyweight.
St. Preux (14-5) is a perfect 2-0 since coming over from Strikeforce. The former Tennessee Volunteer football standout topped both Cody Donovan and Gian Villante and is 5-1 in his last six.
