UFC 170: Eye Tested for Pot, Still Fighting Davis

The strange of saga of UFC women’s bantamweight Jessica Eye’s drug test has finally been resolved after the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation finally released the cause of Eye’s failed test, marijuana. The TDLR revealed the cause of the failed test earlier today to FOX Sports after a previous report from Bloody Elbow’s Brent Brookhouse.

The TDLR also revealed that Eye has accepted her punishment of a probationary suspension, a $1875 fine, and additional monitoring of Eye’s status.

The announcement vindicated Brookhouse after Eye herself denied she tested positive for marijuana over the weekend and again on the MMA Hour. Eye stated the test was due to her use of blood thinners as a lingering result of injuries from a near fatal car crash.

While the true cause of the failed test has now been revealed, there could be more issues for Eye after she admitted to taking blood thinners. While commissions typically do not test for blood thinners, using them can have catastrophic results for a fighter due to issues with clotting and potential internal hemorrhaging.

The admission by Eye could lead to problems for the women’s bantamweight ahead of her UFC 170 showdown with Alexis Davis. As of this post, NSAC has yet to release a response to Eye’s current situation.
