UFC lightweight Yancy Medeiros’ UFC Fight Night 31 (UFC Fight for the Troops 3) victory over Yves Edwards has been overturned following a positive drug test. The Hawaiian fighter saw his victory overturned by the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority after testing positive for marijuana metabolites. MMAJunkie was first to report the failed test.
The UFC released a statement on the matter earlier today:
“UFC lightweight Yancy Medeiros tested positive for marijuana metabolites following his bout against Yves Edwards at UFC Fight for the Troops 3. He was informed that his positive test violated the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy and Promotional Agreement with Zuffa, LLC.He agreed to and served a 90-day suspension retroactive to the event, and must pass a drug test before receiving clearance to compete again.”
Medeiros is now still in search of his first UFC victory when he faces Joe Ellenberger at UFC 172. The positive test will not affect the upcoming bout as Medeiros will have served his 90-day prior to the April 26 pay-per-view card. The Hawaiian is the second fighter to test positive for marijuana after Jessica Eye tested for marijuana following UFC 166.
