Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, Lyoto Machida On Possible Meeting

Given the choice, both Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Lyoto Machida would much rather compete for the UFC middleweight title than square off with one another.

However, if the UFC asked, neither fighter would take issue with the bout.

Both Souza and Machida scored victories Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 36 in Brazil. Souza, a former Strikeforce champion, downed Francis Carmont, while Machida – an ex-UFC champ – defeated Gegard Mousasi.

“This fight can happen, yes,” said Souza, during the post-fight press conference (thanks to Guilherme Cruz for the quotes). “I wouldn’t like this fight, but I’d take it.”

Machida echoed those sentiments, saying, “Like ‘Jacare’ said, I wouldn’t like this fight, but I’d take it.”

UFC president Dana White previously stated that Machida could be in line to become the new No. 1 contender with a win over Mousasi, but “The Dragon” did mention a possible broken foot suffered in his five-round war.
