Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans described his knee injury during an appearance on The MMA Hour earlier this week.
Evans, who was scheduled to face Daniel Cormier at UFC 170, underwent a massive operation to repair his torn ACL. He will likely miss the majority of 2014, but is hoping for a return late in the year.
“(The injury) was the last practice of the camp,” Evans said. “I was doing a wall drill where guys are trying to hold me against the wall and we were wrestled up and (Cezar Mutante) slipped out of position and he ended up landing on my knee at a certain angle.
“I landed on it wrong and I messed my knee up pretty bad. At that point, that was before the conference call.”
Evans continued to hype up the fight on the conference call with Cormier. “Suga” has won his last two fights over Dan Henderson and Chael Sonnen.
