UFC 171 Fight Card: Lawler Looks Back At Loss

Robbie Lawler appeared to have found his second-wind this past weekend at UFC 171, coming on strong in the third and fourth rounds of his welterweight title fight with Johny Hendricks.

However, Lawler was handed a decision loss when Hendricks won the fifth and final round, costing him his shot at becoming the champion.

“I probably should have pressed a little bit more and pressed to finish,” said Lawler, during the post-fight press conference. “It’s easy to look back now and look at the things you should have done.”

Lawler (22-10) has won seven of his 11 UFC fights during two stints with the promotion, but the loss to “Bigg Rigg” snapped a third-fight win streak.

In 33 career bouts, he’s only left it up to the judges seven times, going 3-4 in decisions.

“When you leave it up to the judges, those things happen,” he said. “I just didn’t do enough. I thought I fought a pretty good fight.

“It was a hell of a fight.”
