Melvin Guillard Released From UFC After Another Loss

Melvin Guillard survived a 1-4 run in the UFC from late 2011 to 2012, but could not save his job after a performance UFC president Dana White was very critical of.

The UFC has released Guillard, who was defeated by Michael Johnson earlier this month. “The Young Assassin” has gone just 2-5 with one no-contest since stringing together a five-fight win streak of 2010-11.

Guillard (31-13-2) has shared the Octagon with the likes of Ross Pearson, Donald Cerrone, Jim Miller and Joe Lauzon, virtually a who’s who of the UFC’s lightweight division.

He has won three “Knockout of the Night” awards and two more “Fight of the Night” bonuses, while holding the record for most stoppage wins via TKO or KO in the division among UFC fighters with eight.

Guillard’s release was first reported by

Malki Kawa, the manager for Guillard, posted a message on Twitter in reference to several promotions already contacting him about signing a contract.
