This Year No Longer In Anderson Silva’s Time Frame For Return

Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has placed 2015 on his mind for a potential return to the Octagon – and that is only a chance.

Silva, who many inside the UFC have been touting for a possible fight yet this year, told Combate that, “This year is over for me.”

Last December, Silva suffered a broken leg while attempting a kick vs. Chris Weidman. He underwent surgery and has posted numerous updates in regards to his conditioning since.

“These rumors that I’ll fight at UFC 181 or any other event around that date aren’t true,” he said. “There’s a chance I’ll fight in the first half of 2015.”

Prior to attempting to win back the title from Weidman, Silva signed a 10-fight deal with the UFC. However, after initially stating plans to fulfill that contract, he is having second thoughts.

“I don’t see myself stopping, but I don’t know if I will fulfill my 10-fight contract,” he said. “My family has been asking me for years to stop fighting.

“They need to understand that this is what I love to do and that I need to have my time. My goal in the sport was to become a reference, and I’m achieving this.”

Silva, who will turn 39 next month, holds the UFC record for most successful title defenses at 10. He also won a UFC-best 16 fights in a row before falling to Weidman last July.
