Melvin Guillard, WSOF Come To Agreement On Deal

Melvin Guillard was not unemployed for very long, as “The Young Assassin” signed a deal with the World Series of Fighting Monday night.

Guillard was released by the UFC after a March decision loss to Michael Johnson. He fought for the promotion for almost nine years, and was in a handful of main events.

After stringing together five consecutive wins from 2010-11, Guillard went just 2-5 with one no-contest in his last eight, including submission losses to Jim Miller and Joe Lauzon, and a knockout loss to Donald Cerrone.

“I am pleased to announce that Melvin Guillard has a new home at the World Series of Fighting,” WSOF president Ray Sefo posted on Twitter.

No word on when Guillard will debut with the promotion, which airs cards on NBC Sports Network. However, WSOF matchmaker Ali Abdelaziz did “welcome” Guillard to the promotion with a tweet that included “July” in it.

“I’m excited to start a new chapter in my career,” Guillard said. “I feel like a brand new fighter with a great opportunity here with World Series of Fighting. I’m looking to prove I’m one of, if not the best lightweight in the world.”
