UFC 175: Future Fight With Anderson Silva Would Be Fine By Lyoto Machida

Former UFC champion Lyoto Machida is set to compete for the middleweight title later this year when he steps inside the Octagon against Chris Weidman at UFC 175.

If Machida wins, and by some chance former champion Anderson Silva works his way back into title contention, what would “The Dragon” do? Would he face his close friend and frequent training partner?

“We have to think that this is a fight that can happen,” he said, during a recent interview with Combate in Brazil. “He can be a future opponent and this is something that we will have to settle in the Octagon only.

“It’s good for the sport. This is a fight that I would like to avoid, but as a professional, we can’t think like that.”

Silva, who is recovering from a broken leg, has stated the same as of late concerning his Brazilian friends and fighters.

The 35-year-old Machida (21-4) trains out of Black House alongside Silva and even lives in Los Angeles. He bested Gegard Mousasi earlier this year, improving to 2-0 at middleweight.
