UFC 172: Glover Teixeira Feeling Confident Heading Into Title-Fight

Glover Teixeira feels this weekend and UFC 172 will be his crowning achievement. That’s because, after years of battling just to get to the Octagon, the Brazilian will face Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title.

The two will comprise the main event from Baltimore, and Teixeira will enter the night having already felt a great deal of accomplishment.

“We arrived at this point with a great deal of sacrifice,” said Teixeira, in an interview with “Those who followed my career know the difficulties I endured in Brazil. Now, the chance to fight for the UFC belt is an achievement in itself.

“I’m training harder than I’ve ever trained before. I’m getting that belt.”

Teixeira (22-2) is on a 20-fight win streak that includes victories in each of his five UFC bouts. He knows Jones (19-1) is the ultimate challenge, but believes there are holes he can expose.

“There are always holes in anyone’s game,” he said. “Without a doubt Jon Jones is one of the greatest fighters in history, and, of course, we do see errors that we’ll try to exploit.”

The 34-year-old challenger added that it is his coaches who do the planning as far as strategy goes, but he has “watched Jones’ fights. I’m not one to spend too much time studying my opponent. I leave that up to my coaches.”
