UFC 172 Post: Glover Teixeira Suffered Serious Damage In Loss

ufc 172

John Hackleman was a very confident coach heading into UFC 172 this past weekend. Hackleman felt Glover Teixeira would unseat Jon Jones and become the UFC light heavyweight champion.

After five rounds and 25 minutes, that didn’t happen, as Jones dominated the Brazilian and left him a bloody, broken fighter.

Hackleman stated that he’s “never seen Glover hurt so bad” after the loss. Teixeira stated that he suffered both a shoulder and rib injury, and the veteran coach confirmed that.

“I’ve never seen Glover lose a fight like this,” he said. “I’ve never seen Glover bleeding. Glover hurt his right shoulder really bad in the first round. The first round. That’s not an excuse because Jon hurt his shoulder.”

Hackleman explained that, just like when Tyron Woodley defeated Carlos Condit, it was the fighter who caused the injury because of his attacking.

“Jon hurt Glover’s shoulder in the tie up on the clinch against the cage, tweaked his shoulder and he hurt it,” he added. “Glover couldn’t use his right hand very well. He never said he has an actual torn ligament or tendon, so we fight that out after. It was disfigured and swollen.”

The loss snapped a 20-fight win streak for Teixeira, and also saw him fall for the first time since joining the UFC.
