Daniel Cormier Wants To Beat Henderson, Fight Champ After That

UFC heavyweight Daniel Cormier conducted a mini-Q&A session on Twitter recently, taking questions from his many followers.

Cormier is set to meet Dan Henderson in May, and a win could position him as the next contender for the UFC light heavyweight title.

While the current champion, Jon Jones, is set to meet Alexander Gustafsson next, “DC” made it known that if he is declared the man to face the champ after that, he’ll wait for his shot.

“For the record I wanna put something out there,” he wrote. “After I fight Hendo which is a very hard fight. I don’t wanna fight anyone but the champ.”

Cormier defended his resume when asked which tests he has passed to earn a title shot, listing his wins over Josh Barnett, Antonio Silva, Frank Mir and Roy Nelson. Barnett and Mir are both former champions in the UFC, while Silva earned a title shot.

He also referred to Henderson as the “toughest of my of my career.”

Cormier picked Jones over a prime Fedor Emelianenko in a dream fight, while he listed Jones, Jose Aldo, Renan Barao, Velasquez and Demetrious Johnson as his top-five fighters in the pound-for-pound rankings.

The former U.S. Olympic wrestler is unbeaten in his MMA career, winning the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. Cormier was successful in his 205-pound debut earlier this year when he finished Patrick Cummins in the first round.
