UFC 175: Lyoto Machida Not Moving Aside For Vitor Belfort

Lyoto Machida

Lyoto Machida isn’t about to step aside and give Vitor Belfort back the title shot he lost earlier this year. Machida will meet Chris Weidman at UFC 175 for the middleweight championship.

Belfort was originally scheduled to face Weidman, but when the UFC banned the use of TRT, he was forced out. “The Phenom” recently stated that he has passed in-home drug tests, but there has been no movement towards him gaining his fight license to compete.

“I think his statement doesn’t many any sense,” said Machida, in a recent interview with Tatame. “I think Vitor has to wait a little longer. He for sure had that fight of fighting, but he couldn’t do it.

“He has to wait my fight against Weidman, and after that, he will have his shot.”

Machida is just two fights into his middleweight career, but has already defeated both Mark Munoz and Gegard Mousasi. He is a former light heavyweight champion.

Weidman continues to recover from knee surgery, though he has stated he plans to be fully ready to fight in July.
